Shay Healy

Shay has enjoyed a long career in entertainment which started when he first appeared on National Radio at the early age of 15 reading a self-penned article. Shay went on to become a folk correspondent for Spot Light magazine in the early 60s and to this day is still writing articles for various publications.

Shays biggest success as a writer came in 1980 when his song “What’s Another Year” won the Eurovision song contest for Johnny Logan. His songs have been recorded by artists like Billy Connelly, Johnny McEvoy, The High Kings to name a few and today there is a new generation of Folk singers recording some of his material keeping this great man’s music very much alive.

Shay also had a successful career in Television which started out as a camera man in 1963. Within 5 years he had moved to the other side of the lens with appearances on programmes such as “Twenty Minutes With”, “Ballad Sheet” and “Hoot’nany”. Shay went on to present the very successful “Nighthawks” entertainment programme that aired on RTE from 1988-1992.
